The Teacher Residency Immersion Program
Sponsored by Philippine Forum and the Ford Foundation

What is T. R. I. P.?

TRIP stands for Teacher Residency Immersion Program. It is a 10-month professional development teacher-training program initiated by the New York City-based Philippine Forum, and supported by a grant from the Ford Foundation.

TRIP’s focus is on empowering educators, such as you, with life skills appropriate to mentoring youth in our care. Through TRIP, we learn strategies applicable in everyday situations, especially in the classroom, such as the ability to manage difficult conversations regarding young people’s curiosity and questions about life, e.g. concerns regarding their future, their families, how to address in a constructive manner issues on identity and sexuality, or even questions on drug use. Our conversations and interventions become our way of transforming lives, increasing interest in civic engagement and developing critical thinkers.

TRIP’s methodology is scientific and based on action-research straight from the youth themselves who have informed the adults what they seek in an educational experience. Based on our research, TRIP’s mission is to assist teachers have a more meaningful professional experience dealing with their students, as well as being more effective in their function as educators. As a TRIP Fellow, you will be part of a historic and novel educational experience of transforming lives in New York City! Be a TRIP Fellow! Apply now!
